Join Us for Free Writing Workshops this Fall

Join Us on October 8 for a Free Poetry Workshop with Local Poet William Davis!

Calling all Durham middle school students!

We’re so excited to invite you to a poetry writing workshop led by local poet William Davis. You may even recognize him from around town or the Farmers Market, writing poems on his vintage typewriter!

You’ll have the chance to explore your creativity, learn the art of spoken word, and craft your own poems. The workshop includes creative activities, guided poetry prompts, and a unique opportunity to share your work. No prior experience is needed—just bring your imagination!

Did you know we have a blog where we publish the work of middle school students??

It's true! We love to publish the work of Durham's middle school students!

Have you written a short story or a poem that you're really proud of?

Do you have a favorite book that you think everyone should read?

Let us know, and we'll publish your review on our website AND promote it on our social media.

And then just like that, you'll be a published author!!

Throughout DBCreads, we also like to give prompts based on the book of the month to encourage new ideas and conversation

Writing prompts will ask you to write a short essay or story to think creatively, and art prompts encourage your illustrations: whether it’s by hand or digital, that’s up to you. Those essays are published on our blog throughout that month, so you'll want to check in regularly to read what other participants have posted.

Past Writing Workshops

Winter 2024

At our very first Writing Workshop in January, we had so much fun with Scott Reintgen with a super insightful discussion about worldbuilding and character building. We're so grateful for our partnership with Durham County Library teen services managers and their amazing collaborations with us. Together, we're able to get so many tweens and teens together to talk about reading, writing, and so much more!
